The Feature: The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete

The Revenge of Jennifer Hudson's stubborn edges...

But I digress....

This film has to be one of the most touching features I have seen this year. Starring Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Anthony Mackie and a reslient performace by young Skylan Brooks as Mister and Ethan Dizon as Pete; this picture is an emotional roller coaster.
It is a coming of age story that depicts young Mister and Pete going through the summer to fend for themselves after their mothers (one played by Hudson) are taken away by the authorities. Sparks plays a former neighbor and friend to the title characters while Mackie plays the local hustler and suspected pimp of Hudson's character.
If I had to sum it up, I would say this is a story that meets the film Precious with Pursuit of Happyness. For a period, it is heavy; full of drama and despair. However, if not at the last minute, it uplifts. It's one that showcases that even when all hope seems to be lost, there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel if one fights until the end.
